Presentation

The Euroregion Pyrénées-Méditerranée was founded on October 29th, 2004. It is a cooperative political project involving the regions of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Occitanie (and the Aragon, which is no longer part of the Euroregion).

The aim of the project is to create a sustainable development cluster in the northwestern Mediterranean region based on innovation and the social and economic integration of the territory. As such, the Euroregion shall contribute to the construction of a united, solidarity-based Europe attuned to the concerns and experiences of its citizens.

We shall confirm our position as a territory committed to fostering and defending projects essential to achieving balanced, sustainable development, on the European scale. We shall strive to improve our international competitiveness while putting people at the core of our actions and priorities. By fostering links between our technological, scientific and cultural centers, we intend to become a hub of innovation and sustainable growth.

In May 2006, the Aragon region in Spain ceased to participate in the actions of the Eurorégion, Pyrénées-Méditerranean. However, Aragon based organizations continue to participate in some euro-regional networks.
