Eurocampus and higher education

In 2009, the four presidents of the Region decided to reinforce genuine cooperation in the areas of Higher education, Research and Innovation. The Pyrénees-Méditerranée Eurocampus is the fruit of this initiative, bringing together over 510 000 students and 45 000 researchers.

Eurocampus is based on three main lines of action :

   - Mobility and the exchange of know-how,

   - A digital campus and collaborative online platforms,

   - Cooperation in the areas of research and innovation and the development of networks between teachers, researchers and people working in industry.

The objective : « To bring together all actors in higher education and research in the Euroregion and to heighten the attractiveness of this territory.”

This ambitious project requires a clear, structured framework of action to improve understanding and awareness of the project throughout the euroregional territory as well as expanding its added value. Today, this means mobilizing university actors and institutions to re-launch the priority actions that the Euroregion wishes to develop in 2012. This shall involve bringing together people from the university sector, researchers, political and technical leaders in the fields concerned and the GECT Pyrénées-Méditerranée team, all working together in close collaboration.

Actions achieved

In 2010, a driving committee was established comprised of leading actors from the university sector as well as political leaders in charge of higher education in the member regions. This committee met four times to define priority actions.

Four proposals from the EUROCAMPUS committee were already implemented :

   1. Creation of an interactive, dynamic and regularly updated web-based portal www.eurocampusweb.eu which counts over 18 000 visits since its creation in March 2011.

   2. Creation of the « Eurocampus » mobility check system accessible to all students in Masters and Licence programs within the Euroregional territory and leaving on a mobility program in one the four regions (studies or company internships in the neighboring country).

   3. Provision of language training prior to the mobility experience (programme IC4).

   4. Promotion of double-degrees and fostering the mobility of teachers.
